World Cup Drama Re-Lived Through Video Art

6/26/2015  New York, NY

The beautifully designed soccer magazine EightbyEight collaborated with production company Ghost Robot and director Adam Levite to create a series of sleek videos from the latest World Cup in Brazil.

The first (featured above) re-envisions what was probably the singular most memorable moment for U. S. fans. Substitute defender John Brooks scored a header in the 86th minute to give the Americans a 2-1 opening day victory over Ghana, shining light on the hopes of advancing past the Group of Death.

A second clip (below) encapsulates maybe the single most iconic moment of the tournament. Robin Van Persie’s flying header in Holland’s 5-1 victory over Spain. Voted the second best goal of the tournament, the stunning finish seemed to infuse the Dutch with confidence, inspiring them to a thrashing of reigning champions Spain.

Finally, the last video depicts ‘The Bite’ from Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan forward courted controversy with this play involving defender Giorgio Chiellini in a 1-0 group stage victory over Italy:

In all, a beautiful series of videography production.
