Garber Taps Atlanta For 22nd Franchise

Atlanta, welcome to Major League Soccer.

Commissioner Don Garber confirmed the league’s 22nd franchise will reside in Georgia’s capital, which has a considerable history of professional soccer, dating back to the founding of the NSPL’s Atlanta Chiefs in 1967.

The team is set to begin play in 2017 and will be headed by Arthur Blank, co-founder of The Home Depot and owner of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, who told fans they will share ownership of the club.

Regarding a home field, the expansion side will play at the $1 billion dollar New Atlanta Stadium, which is currently under construction downtown.
