USMNT celebrate after topping the Hex

With some important roster decisions yet to be finalized, the United States Men’s National Team still had a lot to play for as they hosted Jamaica at Sporting Park on Friday.

Jürgen Klinsmann’s men have already qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but many of the 23 spots are still up for grabs, leaving the players with plenty of incentive over the final two games.

Graham Zusi threw his name in the hat on Friday with a strong substitute performance in front of his Sporting KC home fans, scoring the opener to spark the American attack into life after a slow opening hour left much to be desired from the attacking pair of Jozy Altidore and AZ Alkmaar forward Aron Johannsson.

Just four minutes later, a mistake from the Jamaican back line gifted the ball to Edgar Castillo, who slotted over a heady cross to Altidore for an easy tap-in.

The victory combined with Costa Rica’s 1-0 loss to Honduras leaves the USMNT atop the Hexagonal qualifying round for the third time in a row, with the final match against Panama to be played at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City on Tuesday.
