The Steve Nash Foundation hosted their 8th annual Showdown NY at Sara D. Roosevelt park in Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Wednesday.

The event combines the worlds of professional basketball and soccer for a friendly 8v8 match aimed at raising funds for the charity, which provides services for underprivileged youth across the world.

This year’s version amassed an impressive array of sponsorships including GNC, Cyber Dust, Major League Soccer, Under Armour, TAG Heuer, JetBlue, Windows, Body Armor, Jawbone ®, and Kicks to the Pitch.

Preceding the match, Alessandro Del Piero was presented with a Spirit of Showdown Award celebrating his outstanding career and contributions to the sport of soccer.

The game kicked off to a frenzied pace on the sparkling new turf, with the NBA representatives and particularly Luol Deng displaying impressive quality against the seasoned international pros dotting both rosters.

Led by New Jersey native Giuseppe Rossi, team USA eventually registered an 8-5 victory over Nash’s Team World.
