7/22/2012 Yankee Stadium (attendance 38,202)

Chelsea 1 Paris Saint-Germain 1’s photography crew was on hand for the first ever soccer game at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night. So the attached gallery should hopefully provide an extra layer to the game summary.

The Stadium was nearly full with just under 40,000 fans, almost exclusively Chelsea fans. John Terry made his first appearance since being cleared of racial abuse charges stemming from an incident with Anton Ferdinand last season. He spent some time signing autographs and eventually subbed into the second half to a rousing ovation.

Nené was amazing in the first half. Hopefully PSG will find a way to not only hold onto the Brazilian attacker, but find room for him in the starting lineup with Ibra, Lavezzi, and Pastore.

Chelsea’s best player looked like Eden Hazard for the second straight pre-season game. The 21 year old is intimidatingly athletic, and maintains maturity and vision beyond his years.

Overall, the friendly must be described as a huge success. Even the Yankee infield dirt, which could easily have been a disruptive issue, was expertly covered with several layers of sod and held up surprisingly well through the course of the game.

For American fans who enjoy watching quality football live, these tours are an exciting step towards the ultimate goal of bringing the best players in the world to play here, so take in the first soccer game ever played at the new Yankee Stadium through these photographs:
