On This Day: Sep 15

From Rangers.co.uk:

WE look at some of the memorable moments that have happened on this day in the remarkable history of Rangers.

Today, we cast our eyes back to a good draw away to Beitar Jerusalem, a Terry Hurlock strike against Celtic and a thumping 5-1 win over Airdrie in the League Cup.

Rangers were beginning to find their feet under Dick Advocaat at the start of the 1998/99 season, and after seeing off Shelbourne and PAOK Salonika in qualifying, the Light Blues were drawn against the Israeli outfit in the UEFA Cup first round.

Trailing to an early Penalty, up stepped Jorg Albertz with a typically thunderous finish six minutes from time to secure the away goal. Gers won the second leg 4-2 and progressed to play Bayer Leverkusen.

Terry Hurlock rescued a point for Gers with a drilled shot from the edge of the area on this day in 1990. Known for his uncompromising style, Hurlock’s goal cancelled out a Derek Whyte goal for the visitors at Ibrox.

Airdrie were hammered 5-1 back on this day in 1965 in the quarter-final, first-leg of the League Cup at Broomfield. Goals from John Greig, Alex Willoughby, Jim Forrest and a double from George McLean all-but ended the tie in the first game.
