NYCFC propose home next to Yankee Stadium

01/06/2014  New York, New York

The Daily News and New York Post are reporting that NYCFC owner Sheik Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has received initial approval concerning his proposal to build a new $400 million stadium in a lot now operated by the Yankee Stadium garage on East 153rd Street in the Bronx.

The billionaire United Arab Emirati is motivated to start construction on the massive project in part because of generous tax exemptions on the real estate due to the poor management of the lot, which is on the verge of bankruptcy.

The team has initial plans to use Yankee Stadium as their home address for their inaugural season in 2015, with hopes of having their new 28,000-seat ground ready for 2018.

While this is potentially exciting news for soccer fans in the New York metropolitan area, the deal has yet to be confirmed by mayor Bill Di Blasio’s administration or Major League Soccer.
