KILLIE PREVIEW – STEVE CLARKE:

FAST FACTS

  • Rangers have met Kilmarnock at Ibrox on league business on 107 occasions to date since the first match, a 6-1 Gers win at the First Ibrox Park on 9 December 1899. Rangers have won 85 of the meetings and have lost 10 while 12 matches have been drawn. Rangers have scored 299 goals and conceded 79.
  • Rangers have only won one of the last seven league encounters with Kilmarnock, with three draws and three defeats also in the sequence. You go back 90 years to find a similar run of games for Rangers when they won only two out of eight between March 1924 and December 1927, although the other six fixtures were all drawn.
  • Rangers’ next Ibrox goal against Kilmarnock will be their 300th league goal in the fixture at home. The 100th goal was scored by George Brown to complete a 4-0 win in February 1930 while Willie Johnston scored number 200, opening the scoring in a 2-0 victory in November 1980.
  • Kilmarnock’s last five goals in the fixture have all been scored by players that have also played for Rangers. Kris Boyd has scored three of them, all at Rugby Park, while Chris Burke netted the equaliser at Ibrox in October and Dean Shiels scored the only goal in Killie’s last Ibrox win, in February 2012, prior to joining Rangers.
  • Kris Boyd’s two strikes for Kilmarnock in the last meeting of the sides took his tally to 20 league goals in the fixture. Having scored three times for Killie between January 2002 and December 2005, Boyd then notched 14 times for Rangers in the fixture and has now scored another three for the Rugby Park side in his latest spell.

ONE TO REMEMBER

KILMARNOCK 1 RANGERS 5 | 15/05/2011 | SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

RANGERS clinched their third SPL title in a row after an unbelievable opening period at Kilmarnock set them up for the victory they needed to retain their crown.

In a truly mindblowing first six minutes, the champions scored THREE times to secure the silverware for a world record 54th time.

Kyle Lafferty’s double and Steven Naismith’s 15th strike of what has been an excellent campaign for him gave the Ibrox men a wonderful advantage at such an early stage.

Nikica Jelavic added a fourth after the break with a sublime free kick before Lafferty rounded off his second hat-trick of the campaign with a cool finish.

The triumph means boss Walter Smith bows out of his second spell at the helm in remarkable style.

MATCH PROGRAMME

TODAY’S official Rangers v Kilmarnock matchday programme is packed with exclusive interviews and will be available to buy at Ibrox in print and digital form.

The cover star and main feature for this weekend’s 84-page issue is midfielder Sean Goss who chats about his time at Rangers so far and his hopes for the remainder of the season.

The 22-year-old looks back at his years in the youth ranks at Manchester United and working with the famous coaches at the Premier League club such as Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt.

Saturday’s programme also has interviews with two former players who are now working Stateside – Alejandro Bedoya and Greg Shields.

Bedoya, who is the captain of Philadelphia Union and an experienced player in the US national team, was not at Ibrox for long, making 14 appearances in 2011/12, but he stills holds Rangers close to his heart.

Shields was a young player who made 10 appearances during the Nine in a Row season of 1996/97, including two in the Champions League against Ajax and Auxerre.

He went on to play for Kilmarnock in 2002 before working under Jimmy Calderwood and his assistant, current Gers coach Jimmy Nicholl, at Dunfermline.

Greg is now an assistant coach himself at North Carolina and while this is an exciting time for him at an ambitious club, he has great memories playing alongside Ibrox legends such Gough, Gazza and Laudrup.

But that’s not all, in tomorrow’s programme you will also find the following:

  • Programme notes from Gers boss Graeme Murty and captain Lee Wallace
  • Graham Dorrans picks his top team from players he has played with throughout his career
  • RYDC Q&A with Academy coach Gregory Vignal
  • The Last Word with Craig Moore as he gets ready to play in the legends game at Ibrox next Saturday
  • Club historian David Mason remembers the career of Willie Woodburn, one of the best defenders to ever play for the club
  • We also pick out another Great Goal – this time it’s a cracker from Andy Little against Killie at Rugby Park in October 2010

PLUS there is a tricky quiz to test your football knowledge, Fast Facts, On This Day, Andy Cameron, Snapshot, Junior Gers and A to Z of Stadiums.

All this and so much more is in the official Rangers v Kilmarnock programme, price just £3.50. Don’t miss it!
