Bayern Munich confirmed another sensational player to their already impressive roster as the treble winners announced the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona for €25 million on their official website on Sunday.
The Spanish midfielder reunites with his former manager Pep Guardiola as Bayern’s 2nd major transfer signing of the summer along with Mario Götze from Borussia Dortmund.
Thiago was reportedly Guardiola’s “biggest wish” according to Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and was available for a steep discount price due to a lack of playing time last season.
Tito Vilanova and the Barcelona management did not fulfill Thiago’s contractually required 30 minutes or more in 60 percent of the team’s matches last term, so the 22 year old’s original value €90 million was slashed.
Thiago will report to his new team in the next few days and sign a four year contract for the Bundesliga and Champions League champions, contingent only on a passed medical.
