Atletico battle back against Mineiro rivals America

A late strike from Diego Tardelli secured a thrilling comeback for Atlético Mineiro in a 3-2 victory over Mineiro rivals América at the Arena Independência on Sunday.

An egregious mistake from new signing Nicolás Otamendi left the hosts down a goal inside ten minutes, but the Galo responded through second half goals from Jô and Tardelli.

Paulo Autuori’s men are now 3-2-1 in the Campeonato Mineiro and will prepare to host Colombian side Sante Fe in their second Copa Libertadores group stage match on Wednesday.
