Armband A Huge Honour

From Rangers.co.uk:

JAMES TAVERNIER recently captained the club and against Ayr United and he has been loving growing as a player under the guidance of Graeme Murty.

The full back wore the armband in the tie against the Honest Men on Saturday the added responsibility as a senior member of the squad is helping him to improve.

Speaking to RangersTV today, he said: “It was such an honour for me, my family and my close friends to get that captaincy against Ayr United.

“I have always been a vocal player on and off the pitch, you will always hear me.

“When I first came here it was always something I possibly want to do, captain Rangers and what a great honour that would be and I have had the chance to do that now.

“The gaffer has given me a greater responsibility in the team so I just need to keep going. I feel right at home here and that made me feel even more at home here.”

Tavernier has always enjoyed a good rapport with the Rangers fans and says that signing his new contract today has capped off an excellent period for him.

He said: “I am on social media and I have had a great response from the fans.

“It feels like everything is going in the right direction at the moment, it felt right on Sunday, it was a perfect moment and this new deal is the icing on the cake.

“I would love to be the captain of this club, it is a great responsibility but I think I have grown into a player who can take the pressure on his shoulders.”

Tavernier spoke highly of Murty as he continues to build his own Rangers side after being appointed as manager until the end of the season.

He continued: “He gets on me a little bit more but he has been absolutely tremendous since he has come in.

“He has given me that control I needed, the freedom I needed in certain parts of the game and he coaches me on certain parts of my game too.

“It has worked out really well on a one-on-one situation and he has brought a really good game in me and I’m enjoying playing under him.“
